What is Trezor Suite?

Trezor Suite is the official desktop and web application built by Trezor to work with Trezor hardware wallets. It is the interface layer: the wallet device stores your private keys and signs every transaction, while Suite displays balances, prepares transactions, applies portfolio labels and lets you change device settings such as the PIN, passphrase or firmware version.

Because it is a companion app rather than a wallet itself, Suite never needs your recovery seed to show a balance. It reads public blockchain data and asks the device to sign anything that moves funds — which is why a transaction always ends with a confirmation on the hardware wallet's own screen.

Accounts and balances

Two ways to run it

Trezor Suite Desktop or Trezor Suite Web?

Both versions talk to the same wallet and show the same accounts. They differ in how they are installed and how they connect to the device, which is usually what decides the choice.

Desktop app

An installable application for Windows, macOS and Linux. It runs as a normal program, updates itself, and can use Tor for network traffic. Best for anyone who treats the wallet application as a regular piece of software.

Web app

Rule of thumb: if the wallet is used regularly, install the desktop app and let it update itself. Keep the web version for occasional access on a trusted machine, and always reach it from a bookmark you saved yourself rather than a link someone sent you.

How it works

Device signs, app watches

Trezor Suite is built around one idea: the software can prepare and display anything, but only the hardware wallet can authorise a payment.

  1. Step 1

    Connect the wallet

    Plug in the device and unlock it with your PIN. The app recognises the model and loads the accounts it holds.

  2. Step 2

    Read the blockchain

    Suite fetches balances and history from blockchain servers (or your own backend if you configure one). Keys are not involved at this stage.

  3. Step 3

    Build a transaction

    Choose the recipient, amount and fee. The app assembles an unsigned transaction and hands it to the device.

  4. Step 4

    Confirm on the screen

    The device shows the address and amount. Approve on the wallet and the signed transaction is broadcast to the network.

Portfolio management

Organise, monitor and manage in one place

The app is designed so that routine portfolio housekeeping does not require notes in a separate document. Accounts, labels and history live together, and the dashboard totals them.

Getting started

From unboxing to first transaction

The order of these steps matters more than the speed. A wallet that is set up carefully once does not need to be set up again.

  1. 1. Buy from the source, check the packaging

    A hardware wallet is only trustworthy if it reached you untampered. Order from the manufacturer and inspect the seal.

  2. 2. Install Trezor Suite

    Download the desktop app from the official site, or open the web version. Verify the download source before installing.

  3. 3. Create a wallet and write down the backup

    The recovery words appear on the device screen only. Write them on paper, never photograph them, never type them into a website or chat.

  4. 4. Set a PIN and optionally a passphrase

    A PIN protects the device, and a passphrase creates hidden wallets whose backups must be stored separately.

  5. 5. Receive a small test amount first

    Send a small amount, confirm it appears, then send a test payment out. Only after that move larger sums.

Do I need Trezor Suite to use a Trezor wallet?

You need some compatible software to see balances and prepare transactions. Trezor Suite is the application built by the wallet's maker, so it is the default choice and the one that receives new features and device support first. Other third-party wallets can also connect to the device if you prefer.

Does Trezor Suite ever ask for my recovery seed?

No. Setup and recovery are entered on the device itself. Any page, email, chat or support agent asking you to type recovery words is attempting theft — there is no legitimate exception to this rule.

Is the web version as safe as the desktop app?

The wallet's keys stay on the device in both cases, so a payment still needs on-device confirmation. The web version adds browser-related risks: bookmark the real address, check the URL character by character and avoid unofficial links.

Can I manage several wallets in one installation?

Yes. If you use a passphrase, each passphrase opens a separate wallet within the same device, and Suite can switch between them. Multiple physical devices can also be used with the same installation.

What happens if my computer breaks?

Nothing happens to your funds — they are on the blockchain, controlled by the keys on the device and your backup. Replace the computer, reinstall the app and reconnect the wallet, or restore from the recovery backup on a new device if the wallet itself is lost.
